    Partagas has a rich history as one of the oldest Cuban cigar brands, founded in 1845 by an immigrant from Catalonia, Spain, Don Jaime Partagas y Ravelo.  The brand was later sold to the Cifuentes family.  Following the Cuban Revolution the Partagas factory was seized by the Castro regime.  Ramón Cifuentes Toriello was offered the job of heading Cuba's tobacco business, but refused and instead left Cuba for the United States.  Eventually Ramon Cifuentes Toriello and General Cigar Co. were able to obtain the Partagas trademark for the U.S. market making the cigars in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
